Message from the Chair

Greetings Ole Miss Faculty and Staff Retirees!

And welcome to the Retirees’ Association.  My name is Peter Sukanek, and I’m currently serving as the chair of the Association.  First, you should know that you (and your spouse) are automatically members.  There are no dues, and we’ll never ask you for donations.  We will, however, invite you to join us in the various programs we sponsor.  Since retiring from the University, I like to stay involved with this great institution and hope you will also. Please browse our web pages to find out more about our Association and what we are doing. We try to provide programs and events that Ole Miss retirees are interested in and that provide insights into what is happening here. Please let us know what your interests are and what kinds of programs you would like to see in the future.

There are several programs that have become annual events which we anticipate continuing. One of these is the spring dinner hosted each year for Ole Miss retirees by the Chancellor, who informs us of current and future happenings at the University. Another is the Holiday Brunch, an opportunity to meet with and fellowship with other Ole Miss retirees and guests. One of the most popular yearly events is a briefing by PERS leadership on the status of our retirement system and its plans. We also have outings to athletic events and invite speakers to talk on specific subjects of interest to retirees.

Our web page is also a great place to visit for those who are contemplating retirement.  One of the things we offer is peer mentoring to help ease the transition for those who have questions or concerns regarding retirement.  We have a page describing discounts and benefits for Ole Miss retirees, which we will be periodically updating. You can see our bylaws, which show that all retirees are a member of the organization.
